Acupuncture is a highly valued method using the healing application of ultra-fine sterile, disposable needles to target particular points in the body with the aim of pain relief and correcting the flow of energy, bringing about a change in functions of the body, mind, and spirit. The World Health Organization (WHO) has credited acupuncture as a viable therapy to treat a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions. By stimulating the natural healing response of the body and mind, the shift in energy flow in the body meridians generates an improved functioning of the muscles, organs and systems.

*There are many kinds of Acupuncture including Sports MSK Acupuncture, TCM Acupuncture, Dry Needling, Neuro-Stim Acupuncture, Auricular and Cosmetic Acupuncture to name but a few. Dr. A will assess your issue and recommend what will best fit your needs. Often several techniques are combined within a treatment.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used for thousands of years in China and has helped millions of people maintain wellness, balance and longevity. It is a natural form of treatment combining acupuncture, herbal medicine and tui'na therapeutic massage, which complements Western medicine. Herbal medicines come in a variety of forms such as dry and loose herbs, pills, powders, poultices, and tinctures. A safe and professional environment, using sterilized and disposable needles, with every treatment, ensures clean needle technique with the utmost care. During your first visit, a full medical history is taken, followed by the appropriate treatment plan, integrating TCM and other healing modalities. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a system that includes MSK conditions and the internal organs by way of meridians and channels balancing the immune system and flow of energy or life force — known as chi or qi (chee). It reduces stress and works on the body, mind, and spirit. TCM Acupuncture maintains and balances health, and relieves pain (physical, emotional, and psycho-spiritual).

Custom-made foot orthotics designed to improve your foot function, alleviate pain, & help you stay active!
A custom-made foot orthotic is a device inserted into your shoe designed to align the foot and lower limb into a more efficient position and better manage load or forces. Excessive tissue forces can be altered allowing for injured tissues to heal and optimal function to be restored.
The body is connected in what is called a kinetic chain, therefore the way the feet function has implications on the rest of the body. The correct foot orthotic can act to improve function and relieve tissues of abnormal stresses, both in the foot and higher up in the kinetic chain.
Custom orthotics can act to accommodate foot deformities, treat overuse injuries, unload painful areas, improve balance, be a key component in the management of diabetic foot symptoms and be used for sport enhancement.

Conditions often treated by Orthortics include:
Calf and Achilles tendon issues
Shin pain
Heel pain and/or plantar fasciitis
Metatarsal (forefoot) issues including Morton’s Neuroma
Bunions
Ankle Pain & reoccurring sprains
Arthritis
Shin Splints
Knee pain (including osteoarthritis and patellofemoral tracking dysfunction)
Hip and low back pain
General foot and ankle symptoms

Do you often feel dizzy or experience vertigo, motion intolerance, a persistent sense of imbalance, or unsteadiness? If so, there’s a chance you may have vestibular dysfunction. The good news is that these symptoms can be treated and you can regain your quality of life.

Vestibular dysfunction is more common than you may realize. A recent epidemiological study estimates that as many as 35% of adults over the age of 40 have experienced some form of vestibular dysfunction in their lives. Fortunately, most causes of dizziness can be detected through a comprehensive eye exam. It has been found that 85% of cases are due to inner ear disturbance (vestibular dysfunction) and can be treated using Vestibular Rehabilitation.

Neuro-rehabilitation therapy allows us to retrain your brain and eyes to regain functionality and quality of life for those suffering from visual problems due to vestibular rehabilitation. It works by using a variety of methods and techniques to get both eyes to work as a team and see visual space accurately. This form of therapy, known as neuro-optometric rehabilitation therapy, is an effective treatment for reducing or resolving symptoms associated with vestibular dysfunction.

If you have (or suspect you have) vestibular dysfunction and/or suffer from dizziness, unsteadiness or motion intolerance, talk to our team of specialized therapists. We can help!

Welcome to Cobblestone Running Analysis and Performance Program!

Running is a skill, just like any other sport, with important aspects to learn in order to stay injury free and perform at your best. Luckily, training for injury prevention and increasing performance are the same thing. There are many complex aspects of running that come together for one amazing experience. However, the large majority of runners experience at least one injury per year, which can be incredibly frustrating. One of the most important aspects in order to see improvements with running performance is the ability to stack training season over season, and year over year. Therefore, any time lost to injury takes you further away from reaching your full potential. Here at Cobblestone, we wanted to provide you with a solution to this problem, which is why we created the Running Analysis and Performance Program. It is our goal to arm you with the knowledge and skills to reach your full potential, whether that be completing a 5 kilometer run or racing a high-performance marathon, and everything in between.
Assessment
All of our assessments are one-on-one, utilizing an individualized approach based on your current needs. A running assessment will include: video-recorded gait analysis, introduction to form drills, an overview of your current running program, and identification of your strengths and weaknesses. Together, we will develop a treatment plan for injury prevention and performance which may include drills, strength training, adjustments to training plans, and/or adjustments to running technique.

Book now with Tanis Bolton, Physiotherapy Resident and sub-elite runner with 15 years experience including: varsity cross country, varsity track and field, road racing (5km-marathon), and ultramarathons!

A day in the life of an occupational therapist:

An occupational therapist will try to find out why a client cannot do what they would like or need to do. An OT may check:
Your physical abilities like strength, balance and coordination
Your mental abilities like memory, coping strategies, organizational skills
What materials or devices you use to participate in activities like furniture, utensils, tools or clothes
What social and emotional support is available to you at home, school, work or in the community, and
The physical setup of your house, classroom, workplace or other environment
Depending on what the problem is, the occupational therapist can help you solve it by:

1. Helping you overcome your disability. OTs do this by:
Educating or instructing you on how to do things with the abilities you have – e.g. getting around your community in a wheelchair
suggesting activities that will help you improve or maintain the abilities you have – e.g. improving your coping strategies

2. Adapting the materials you use. OTs do this by changing the things you use:
Around the house – e.g. a special key holder to make turning keys easier
In sports or leisure activities – e.g. a playing cards holder
At work or school – e.g. special tools that help prevent injury to hands and back
To take care of yourself – e.g. special bath or toilet seats
To get from place to place – e.g. car modifications such as one-handed steering wheels

3. Recommending changes to the environments where you do your everyday activities. OTs do this by recommending that you:
change the physical layout of your workplace, home or school – e.g. lowering/raising desk tops, countertops or cupboards
find out about the supports in your community – e.g. specialized public transportation
work with the people in your community – e.g. providing education about a disability to the teacher or employer
work with the government to encourage health living – e.g. request funding for special equipment
Through client-centred care, occupational therapists not only help overcome barriers but help prevent:
Unecessary hospital stays and readmissions, premature moves to a nursing home, work injuries due to poor work station positioning and other organizational strains, school dropouts due to poor attention spans or reading and writing difficulties, unemployment among people with a developmental disability or a mental illness

How are occupational therapy services paid for?
Workers compensation claims may involve a referral to occupational therapy services if you have a work-related illness or injury.
If you have an illness or injury from a motor vehicle accident, occupational therapy services may be covered under your auto insurance plan.
Long term disability insurance programs may cover occupational therapy services.
If you are a Canadian armed forces veteran, the Department of Veteran Affairs may cover occupational therapy services.
When occupational therapy services are not funded by your employee benefit plan or by provincial insurance coverage, there are occupational therapists working in private practice who offer competitive rates.

Being a kid is hard, it can’t be compared to previous generations anymore because, whether we like it or not, things have changed. Kids often face a lot of challenges that might seem small to adults but feel huge to them. There are pressures from school, friends, and family. It’s a time of big emotions and changes, and it’s not always easy to navigate. Teenagers are expected to know what they want to do with their lives rather than being able to focus on who they want to be as a person. Parents are supposed to know how to grow and support these kids when they weren’t necessarily given the proper tools.

The social expectations on parents make things so exhausting. It’s challenging enough trying to guide kids through all the milestones but teaching children about emotion regulation can be even more difficult when parents themselves have struggled with their own emotions or trauma. together we can turn this into an opportunity for growth and healing for both parent and child.

I work directly with children to learn about their own emotional responses I work with children and parents together to learn new ways to communicate needs, I work with teenagers to figure out why things seem so big, and I also work with adults who have experienced difficult childhoods that continue to effect their identities and view of their self.

Being a kid is hard, it can’t be compared to previous generations anymore because, whether we lik... Read More

Let’s face it, finding the right therapist can feel a lot like online dating. Sifting through a sea of bios and photos, trying to get a sense of who will be the RIGHT FIT for your therapeutic journey. There are plenty of great therapists out there, and we all have something different to offer. You’re right to invest this much time and energy in finding the perfect match because the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors for your progress. In fact, studies show that a good therapist-client relationship can improve therapy outcomes by up to 30% (Norcross & Lambert, 2018). On that note, I have done my best to outline information about my practice to help you in your decision.

What You Can Expect From Our Sessions Together

Team Work

I believe that we are a team with the same goals (your goals). Think of us digging a tunnel… exploring together: as the expert on your own life, you’ll hold the shovel and dig, while I hold the light and guide the way. My view is that the therapeutic journey isn’t about changing who you are but discovering more about yourself and then showing up in life in the way you really want to.

Fun

While therapy can be serious and sometimes feel challenging, I also believe in having some fun along the way. We’ll use different tools and methods, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Existential Therapy, Mindfulness Based Therapy and even life coaching techniques. This variety makes it possible to customize your therapeutic journey to you.

Practical and Useful

I believe therapy is a worthy investment that should be practical and helpful so you get the sense that it’s worth your efforts (and money). You may even be surprised that the the journey towards your goals might be shorter than you imagine.

What You Will Not Find from Our Sessions

No Diagnosing or Prescribing Medications

I don’t provide diagnoses or prescribe medications. You’re welcome to bring in any diagnoses or use such terminology if it’s helpful for you, but my role doesn’t involve using medication to treat clients. Many people find medication beneficial, but prescribing it is not a part of my practice.

No Couches Here

Contrary to popular media portrayals, therapy with me does not involve lying on a couch. We sit in chairs, and sometimes even move around. Going for walks outside is also an option.

Not Just for Crisis

Therapy isn’t only for crises or severe mental health issues. It can be beneficial for personal growth, managing stress, improving relationships, and more.

Not Just Talking

While talking is an important part of therapy, it’s not the only component. Therapy often involves a variety of techniques and activities designed to help you develop skills and insights.

Non Judgmental

We are all human. Our sessions will be held in a safe, non-judgmental space; you will never be criticized or judged for your feelings, thoughts, or behaviors. The goal is to provide support and understanding.

Not One-Size-Fits-All

There is no single approach to therapy that works for everyone. Sessions are customized to fit your individual needs and preferences, which means we may use different techniques and terminologies that work for you.

What Makes Me the Right Fit for Your Therapeutic Journey?

Education

I hold two Master’s degrees: the first with a focus on Adult Learning and the second in Counselling Psychology. Additionally, I hold a diploma in Respiratory Therapy. This “mixed” academic background supports my practical experience in helping others.

Experience

With 20 years experience in healthcare and education, I bring a diverse background to my work as a psychotherapist. Starting as a Respiratory Therapist, I’ve worked in hospitals, homes, and classrooms, learning to understand and adapt to different cultures. I’ve also trained healthcare teams internationally and managed hospital operations abroad. Now, as a psychotherapist, I blend my clinical skills with cultural awareness to better support my clients. My journey has taught me to empathize and connect with people from all walks of life, making me uniquely equipped to help others in today’s globalized world.

Interests

I’m a bit of a nerd, and am passionate about continuous learning, particularly in the areas of the mind-body connection, neuroscience, all things wellness, and mental health. This drive allows me to continually expand my skill set and knowledge, providing a wide range of resources to support my clients.

Personal Approach

I offer a compassionate and holistic approach to therapy, understanding that each person’s journey is unique.
