Acupuncture is a highly valued method using the healing application of ultra-fine sterile, disposable needles to target particular points in the body with the aim of pain relief and correcting the flow of energy, bringing about a change in functions of the body, mind, and spirit. The World Health Organization (WHO) has credited acupuncture as a viable therapy to treat a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions. By stimulating the natural healing response of the body and mind, the shift in energy flow in the body meridians generates an improved functioning of the muscles, organs and systems.

*There are many kinds of Acupuncture including Sports MSK Acupuncture, TCM Acupuncture, Dry Needling, Neuro-Stim Acupuncture, Auricular and Cosmetic Acupuncture to name but a few. Dr. A will assess your issue and recommend what will best fit your needs. Often several techniques are combined within a treatment.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used for thousands of years in China and has helped millions of people maintain wellness, balance and longevity. It is a natural form of treatment combining acupuncture, herbal medicine and tui'na therapeutic massage, which complements Western medicine. Herbal medicines come in a variety of forms such as dry and loose herbs, pills, powders, poultices, and tinctures. A safe and professional environment, using sterilized and disposable needles, with every treatment, ensures clean needle technique with the utmost care. During your first visit, a full medical history is taken, followed by the appropriate treatment plan, integrating TCM and other healing modalities. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a system that includes MSK conditions and the internal organs by way of meridians and channels balancing the immune system and flow of energy or life force — known as chi or qi (chee). It reduces stress and works on the body, mind, and spirit. TCM Acupuncture maintains and balances health, and relieves pain (physical, emotional, and psycho-spiritual).

Speech-language pathologists are highly-educated professionals who have a minimum of a master’s degree in their field. As in any health-care related profession, SLPs are required to study anatomy and physiology, but they also study neuroanatomy, genetics, human and language development, linguistics, psychology, acoustics and more, which is why they are qualified to evaluate, diagnose (restricted in some provinces/territories) and treat a broad range of delays and disorders.

Speech-language pathologists can help with:
-Speech delays and disorders including articulation, phonology and motor speech disorders.
-Language delays and disorders, including expression and comprehension in oral and non-verbal contexts
-Fluency disorders, including stuttering.
-Voice and resonance disorders.
-Swallowing and feeding disorders in adults, children and infants.
-Cognitive-communicative disorders including social communication skills, reasoning, problem solving and executive functions.
-Pre-literacy and literacy skills including phonological awareness, decoding, reading comprehension and writing.
-Communication and swallowing disorders related to other issues. For example, hearing impairments, traumatic brain injury, dementia, developmental, intellectual or genetic disorders and neurological impairments.

Do you often feel dizzy or experience vertigo, motion intolerance, a persistent sense of imbalance, or unsteadiness? If so, there’s a chance you may have vestibular dysfunction. The good news is that these symptoms can be treated and you can regain your quality of life.

Vestibular dysfunction is more common than you may realize. A recent epidemiological study estimates that as many as 35% of adults over the age of 40 have experienced some form of vestibular dysfunction in their lives. Fortunately, most causes of dizziness can be detected through a comprehensive eye exam. It has been found that 85% of cases are due to inner ear disturbance (vestibular dysfunction) and can be treated using Vestibular Rehabilitation.

Neuro-rehabilitation therapy allows us to retrain your brain and eyes to regain functionality and quality of life for those suffering from visual problems due to vestibular rehabilitation. It works by using a variety of methods and techniques to get both eyes to work as a team and see visual space accurately. This form of therapy, known as neuro-optometric rehabilitation therapy, is an effective treatment for reducing or resolving symptoms associated with vestibular dysfunction.

If you have (or suspect you have) vestibular dysfunction and/or suffer from dizziness, unsteadiness or motion intolerance, talk to our team of specialized therapists. We can help!

Welcome to Cobblestone Running Analysis and Performance Program!

Running is a skill, just like any other sport, with important aspects to learn in order to stay injury free and perform at your best. Luckily, training for injury prevention and increasing performance are the same thing. There are many complex aspects of running that come together for one amazing experience. However, the large majority of runners experience at least one injury per year, which can be incredibly frustrating. One of the most important aspects in order to see improvements with running performance is the ability to stack training season over season, and year over year. Therefore, any time lost to injury takes you further away from reaching your full potential. Here at Cobblestone, we wanted to provide you with a solution to this problem, which is why we created the Running Analysis and Performance Program. It is our goal to arm you with the knowledge and skills to reach your full potential, whether that be completing a 5 kilometer run or racing a high-performance marathon, and everything in between.
Assessment
All of our assessments are one-on-one, utilizing an individualized approach based on your current needs. A running assessment will include: video-recorded gait analysis, introduction to form drills, an overview of your current running program, and identification of your strengths and weaknesses. Together, we will develop a treatment plan for injury prevention and performance which may include drills, strength training, adjustments to training plans, and/or adjustments to running technique.

Book now with Tanis Bolton, Physiotherapy Resident and sub-elite runner with 15 years experience including: varsity cross country, varsity track and field, road racing (5km-marathon), and ultramarathons!

This energy shock is not electrical, but rather a rapid high frequency vibration in the form of a Radial Pressure Wave (RPW).

A day in the life of an occupational therapist:

An occupational therapist will try to find out why a client cannot do what they would like or need to do. An OT may check:
Your physical abilities like strength, balance and coordination
Your mental abilities like memory, coping strategies, organizational skills
What materials or devices you use to participate in activities like furniture, utensils, tools or clothes
What social and emotional support is available to you at home, school, work or in the community, and
The physical setup of your house, classroom, workplace or other environment
Depending on what the problem is, the occupational therapist can help you solve it by:

1. Helping you overcome your disability. OTs do this by:
Educating or instructing you on how to do things with the abilities you have – e.g. getting around your community in a wheelchair
suggesting activities that will help you improve or maintain the abilities you have – e.g. improving your coping strategies

2. Adapting the materials you use. OTs do this by changing the things you use:
Around the house – e.g. a special key holder to make turning keys easier
In sports or leisure activities – e.g. a playing cards holder
At work or school – e.g. special tools that help prevent injury to hands and back
To take care of yourself – e.g. special bath or toilet seats
To get from place to place – e.g. car modifications such as one-handed steering wheels

3. Recommending changes to the environments where you do your everyday activities. OTs do this by recommending that you:
change the physical layout of your workplace, home or school – e.g. lowering/raising desk tops, countertops or cupboards
find out about the supports in your community – e.g. specialized public transportation
work with the people in your community – e.g. providing education about a disability to the teacher or employer
work with the government to encourage health living – e.g. request funding for special equipment
Through client-centred care, occupational therapists not only help overcome barriers but help prevent:
Unecessary hospital stays and readmissions, premature moves to a nursing home, work injuries due to poor work station positioning and other organizational strains, school dropouts due to poor attention spans or reading and writing difficulties, unemployment among people with a developmental disability or a mental illness

How are occupational therapy services paid for?
Workers compensation claims may involve a referral to occupational therapy services if you have a work-related illness or injury.
If you have an illness or injury from a motor vehicle accident, occupational therapy services may be covered under your auto insurance plan.
Long term disability insurance programs may cover occupational therapy services.
If you are a Canadian armed forces veteran, the Department of Veteran Affairs may cover occupational therapy services.
When occupational therapy services are not funded by your employee benefit plan or by provincial insurance coverage, there are occupational therapists working in private practice who offer competitive rates.

I’m Tanis Bolton, Registered Physiotherapist

Tanis graduated from the University of Toronto Masters of Physical Therapy program in 2020. She also holds a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Human Kinetics (Hons. Movement Science) degree from the University of Windsor.

Growing up, Tanis competed in artistic gymnastics where she was first introduced to physiotherapy care. As she transitioned to competing in long distance running (cross country and track) in high school, she had her first major injury which took her away from competition for over a year. While rehabbing this injury, she developed a passion for the human body. She competed for the Varsity XC and track teams at both U of Windsor and U of Toronto earning Academic All-Canadian honours.

After graduation she worked as a Kinesiologist and Personal trainer helping athletes and every day people get the most out of themselves. This experience has also given her a thorough understanding of strength and conditioning principles beyond your traditional rehab approach.

In her free time, she competes as an elite distance runner currently focusing on ultramarathons and bouldering (rock climbing). Competing in running at a high level for the past 15 years has provided a special ability to understand athletes and difficult injuries can be. She is passionate about providing advice and creating opportunities for athletes to continue to stay fit while rehabbing an injury.

Book today to rehab that nagging running injury, work related injuries, or anything that is preventing you from pursuing and thriving at not only your hobbies but, your life.
